I chose to read chapter seven, ” So What? Who Cares?”, from They Say/I Say. This chapter is about how to correctly address the “who cares” of the topic you are writing about. It also addresses the “so what” or, why should we pay attention to what you are saying? The so what talks about the consequences and the real-world scenarios. I chose to read this chapter because sometimes I just overload my essays with information instead of slowing down and giving the “so what? who cares?” and I really need to work on that. Including more explanation of information and less general information would help develop my ideas and thesis better and help the readers understand what I’m trying to explain. I learned that sometimes addressing it straight on is a good way to deal with the so what. One of the templates is “Ultimately, what at state here is ____.” It doesn’t try to sneak in the why it matters it gives it to you straight forward. Going forward in my paper I am going to try and put these techniques to use and incorporate them into my essay. It will further develop my paper if I include who cares about my topic and why they should care about it as well.
